Every year 2 million people die from Tuberculosis, 90% of whom are in developing countries, and 1.5 million in Sub-Saharan Africa. From July 2005 the Global Fund Angola is implementing a project against TB in Angola, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Italian NGO Doctors with Africa, Cuamm. >>more<<


MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
COMMON COUNTRY ASSESSMENT
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) represent an ambitious agenda for reducing poverty and improving the lives of people around the World. The MDGs were agreed by the World's leaders at the Millennium Summit in September 2000. For each goal one or more targets have been set, most for 2015, using 1990 as a benchmark.>>more<<
The Common Country Assessment (CCA) is, with the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), a part of he Secretary-General's reform package, endorsed by the General Assembly. These tools are designed to enhance the UN's collective analysis and programming in support of national goals and priorities, including the MDGs.>>more<<

DEFINITION: ACTION 2
Following the Secretary General's report "Strengthening of the United Nations: an agenda for further change" (A/57/387), a Plan of Action (known as "Action 2") has been prepared by United nations development Office and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to develop the capacity of the UN humanitarian and development operations, so that they can support the member states in establishing and strengthening national human rights promotion and protection systems consistent with international human rights norms and principles. The Plan of action has a three-year time frame, from 2004 to 2006.
